I have a coffee mug that has Wonder Woman on it. It says, “Beautiful as Aphrodite, Wise as Athena”. When I was a little girl, I LOVED Wonder Woman. I watched that t.v. show every week – the one with Linda Carter in it and the cartoon one on Saturdays where she was part of the Hall of Justice. I had a Wonder Woman figurine and she rode around in a see-through plastic jet that was supposed to be invisible. I was Wonder Woman for Halloween. And in my little star-spangled leotard and gold bracelets, I was at that age where I really thought I was her.
As an adult I look at my coffee mug and realize that, even though there are some scary aspects of the Wonder Woman cartoon (yikes with the Barbie-shaped body and I’m sure if I were to watch re-runs of the t.v. show there’d be tons of ick-ish sexist stuff going on), Wonder Woman was still doing something archetypal for the just-budding goddess in me. She was strong, courageous and always knew just what to do. When I travel back to that child self watching her on t.v., I get a powerful sense of strength – loving the strength of her.
I’ve had some changes in my business recently that have put me in completely new territory. It’s exciting andalso scares the be-jeezus out of me. It’s required me to call on the pure essence of strength and power and courage. Strength for no other reason than to simply be strong and steady. I bought the Wonder Woman mug a couple of months ago, as a silly gag gift to myself. But I’ve insisted on keeping it next to me on the desk every day as I work on the computer. I thought it was just for fun, but gee, ya think there might be a deeper reason?!
Now for the part where YOU get your goddess on: For this month’s version of this ritual, I decided to research Greek Goddesses. Even though I’m more partial to the Celtic ones, for some reason today’s post is calling for the Greek ladies. Take a look at the list below and choose which quality you’d like to bring into your business this week. Then add a comment telling us your goddess of choice, plus any other reflections that you want to include.
Artemis – strength & courage
Athena – strategist, diplomat, intellectual wisdom
Persephone – death & re-birth
Demeter – fertility, harvest
Hecate – wild places, crossroads, the in-between
Aphrodite – beauty, love, sensuality
Eos – dawn, budding hope of a new day
Hestia – warmth, tending the hearth
Baubo – bawdiness! (I couldn’t find much on her, but had to put her in here!)
Eirenne – balancing, stabilizing, peacemaker
Nike – the personification of victory
Rhea – flow, ease
(I’ve very simple summaries of qualities for these goddesses, so if you’re drawn to seek more depth in definition, do a quick google and tell us what else you find!)

Well, for reasons made clear in the post above, I’d say my choice is pretty clear – I’m going with Artemis!
Which goddess/quality is speaking to you and your business?
I think Artemis pretty much works for me as well, though I was looking for one that would help in power around money. Possibly Athena.. with her wisdom. Artemis’ Roman counterpart, Diana, always rocked for me.. with her bow and arrows and the crescent moon. And I think they both embodied virginity, in the sense of being “one in herself”.. another quality which is speaking to me right now.
Love this.
Hi Gina! I guess Artemis is where it’s at this week, eh? Oh, and when I was looking stuff up, I did notice Abundantia, one of the Roman goddesses who is all about money and wealth. There are a bunch of others too, but that one stood out because her name is so striking! I also love the “one in herself” thing – really powerful. Gonna use that in my own reflections…
I’m taking scary new steps into growing into my role as a publicist for a tiny publishing house. I think that my goddess would be Iris, messenger goddess. I think of her as a bringer of glad tidings, and I like that: if I’m not excited about the great books we publish, I won’t do my job as well.
I also am liking to think of my other cheerleader as Eos, goddess of the dawn & new beginnings, for the work I do towards the digital publishing side of our business.
